Queen Quiz - Heaven For Everyone

Cover Artwork for Queen's single "Heaven For Everyone"

"Heaven For Everyone" is a Queen single from their fifteenth (and final) studio album "Made In Heaven", written by Roger Taylor but credited to Queen. It was released in the UK in 1995.

It is believed that Taylor was writing the song around 1986, potentially during the recording sessions for Queen's album "A Kind Of Magic", though the song was not used for some unknown reason.

Taylor completed "Heaven For Everyone" and included it on the album "Shove It", released by Taylor's side project, The Cross.

During the recording of The Cross's album "Shove It", Taylor recruited Freddie Mercury to record backing vocals. Two versions were recorded, one featuring Mercury on backing Taylor's lead vocals (as featured on The Cross's single version), and the other with Mercury singing lead (as featured on The Cross's album version). The Taylor-vocal version is about twenty seconds longer than the Mercury-vocal version.

After Freddie Mercury died in 1991, as Queen prepared to complete their final studio album, "Made in Heaven", "Heaven For Everyone" was selected to be reworked by the band as a Queen song. The lead vocal Mercury recorded in 1987 was given a new backing track and new backing vocals. A significant difference between The Cross's version and the Queen version is that there's no spoken introduction, refrain or "end" as done by Taylor in the original.

The music video for "Heaven For Everyone" commemorates Mercury; it opens with images of the graffiti-covered walls of Mercury's home, Garden Lodge, Kensington, before showing footage from the films A Trip to the Moon, The Impossible Voyage and The Eclipse, or the Courtship of the Sun and Moon.
