The American singer, Adam Lambert, rose to fame after competing and finishing as the runner-up in the eighth American Idol series broadcasted in 2009, where he began his audition process by singing Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
At about the same time, Brian May was composing a list of potential singers to replace Paul Rodgers. However May was not watching the show, but footage of Lambert soon arrived to May via people messaging him videos, hence Lambert was placed on the list.
The American Idol producers invited Queen to appear in the show's finale; it should be noted that with the amount of lead time required for such an appearance, there was no guarantee that Lambert would be in the finals. Queen appeared close to the end where the remaining contestants traded lines on "We Are the Champions" and, even though Kris Allen became that season's champion, it's clear when watching the video which singer would get May's vote.
Queen and Adam Lambert's paths crossed again in November 2011 at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast, where Queen was presented with the Global Icon Award. Between them they decided to do a couple of days of rehearsal and then play live on British TV, where they played 'The Show Must Go On,' 'We Will Rock You' and 'We Are the Champions.'
It was pretty clear from the response to the performance that there was chemistry and so Queen began to think of trying some gigs with Lambert and see what happens from there.
Queen + Adam Lambert's first full show together was performed in Kiev on June 30th 2012 as part of a mini tour of Europe. In 2014, they toured across North America and have been touring regularly since.
"Live Around The World" is Queen + Adam Lambert's first international live album featuring a compilation of songs performed at various venues between June 2014 and February 2020. The album was released on Vinyl, CD, DVD and Blu-Ray
