Somebody To Love is a Queen single from their studio album A Day At The Races; it also featured on their first Greatest Hits compilation album.
The song is a complex melody and deep layering of vocal tracks, where Mercury, Taylor and May multitracked their vocals to create the impression of a 100-voice gospel choir. Mercury's fascination and admiration for Aretha Franklin was a major influence on the creation of this song.
With the gospel influence, the song lyrics create a song about faith, desperation and soul-searching for love and God's existence.
The song was performed live during A Day At The Races and News Of The World tours. It also featured within the Jazz and Live Killers tours.
During the Freddie Mercury Tribute concert held in April 1992, George Michael performed the song with the remaining members of Queen, which was hailed as one of the best performances of the tribute concert. The recording was released in 1993 on the EP Five Live and topped the Official UK singles chart.
